The Graduate Program in Sociology at the University of Miami is designed to provide students with theoretical, methodological, and analytical tools required for research and teaching. We recruit students seeking the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Sociology. Graduate students are encouraged to choose two concentrations from three substantive areas: (1) Criminology, (2) Medical Sociology, and (3) Race, Ethnic Relations and Immigration. Although the department's strengths lie within these major programmatic fields, students may also develop a course that meets their research interests and career objectives. Assistantships and Fellowships are awarded competitively each academic year to cover tuition and living expenses.
